The Gift of You

The Gift of YouIf you are completely new to learning how to improve upon yourself, so that you can begin living your life with a more positive attitude, then you want to continue reading. Listed below are some tips to get you started with making more positives changes to your life.

A great tip for personal development is to always make sure you stand up for your beliefs. If you do not have the guts to stand up for what you believe in, then you will be seen as a weak fool. Do careful research to ensure that your claims are the truth, and the truth can not be denied.

Replace negative thoughts with ones that are more positive or balanced. Keep a journal of negative thoughts and what triggers them. When you are in a better mood, go over your journal and see if the negative thoughts you had were necessary and how you can change the way you viewed them at the time.

To keep yourself motivated have a friendly competition with a friend or colleague.
This applies to everything from weight loss to quarterly goals. Most people simply work harder when in competition with others. The other person can also help you stay on track and avoid lazy days. For extra motivation compete for a prize.

Life Is A Gift

Try visualizing your way to success. One of the quickest ways to reach your goals is by closing your eyes and imagining that you already have. Visualizing your future success in vivid detail can help you to start feeling more successful right now. As a result, your behaviors and actions will change, reflecting a new found confidence in your abilities. This confidence, coupled with a clear vision of what you want to achieve, will help you reach your goals with ease.

Some level of contentment is crucial to mental health and self-improvement. While self-help tactics and tips focus on constant striving, there is a bigger picture to consider. You will never achieve holistic health and mental happiness without allowing yourself a bit of enjoyment. Learn to be content with things you cannot change (your family, last year’s earnings, etc.). Once you are satisfied with the permanent things in your life, you are ready to change the things you can control.

Put a stop to those unwanted imaginary opinions that you think people have about you. Many of the terrible things you think people are thinking about you are not really occurring. If you can put a stop to what is basically self-criticizing, you are sure to gain the confidence you want.

Learning a new skill is a great way to stretch yourself and improve the quality of your character. What’s more, perfecting a hobby, technical skill or artistic form may be challenging at first, but if you master it, you will gain a sense of accomplishment, purpose and enjoyment. What’s more, you add to your pool of leisure activities and make yourself a more rounded human being.

As you can now see, living a longer, higher-quality and healthier life with many accomplishments is possible through self-help. Use one, or use them all to find that sense of peace that has long evaded you on the path to personal development.

Are You Dedicated?

If you believe in yourself and have dedication and pride – and never quit, you’ll be a winner. The price of victory is high but so are the rewards.
Paul Bryant

One of the definitions in the dictionary  for dedication reads: self sacrificing devotion. I believe that in order to gain success in life you must be dedicated. Some people are dedicated to being mediocre and not taking risks. I know because I was one of them. I would often pre-occupy myself with other people’s agendas and dreams. I didn’t think that my dreams were attainable. I didn’t think that I was worthy of accomplishing my goals. I have list after list, binder after binder of unfinished projects. It was easy for me to blame other people or lack of compensation but the true culprit was me. I was at complete fault. Why, you may ask? Because I was not dedicated.

Are You Dedicated?

Here are 3 Helpful Strategies that will allow you to become more dedicated.

  1. Identify Your Mission: You must know what it is that requires your dedication. What moves you? What are you passionate about? Pick one thing, and FOCUS.
  2. Become a Student: Think back to when we children in school, we were dedicated to excelling in school. We studied, listened, asked questions, took exams, asked more questions. If you want to become dedicated to a cause, business, relationship, etc., you have to be willing to learn, study, and master what ever your mission is.
  3. Focus Your Energy: Everything must be in alignement with your mission so that you can accomplish it. You must establish a clear path and sacrifice yourself in order to be devoted to your goal. This is so crucial! Do not let anyone or anything distract you from what you are focusing on.

We need to be dedicated to something meaningful in life. I believe that through dedication your purpose will be revealed.

Let’s work on becoming dedicated to something! Share with me what you are dedicated to in the comments section below.

Awaken the Olympian Within You

The whole world is proud of the Women’s US Olympic Team. They are a courageous, determined, fearless group of young women. But it is no question that the breakout star is Ms. Gabrielle Douglas. I don’t follow gymnastics, so I wasn’t truly familiar with her until the airing of the 2012 Olympics. I began to research her story and I was so inspired! Gabby and her family made the ultimate sacrifice and allowed Gabby to move 3,000 miles away to train with the world’s best gymnastics coach. She lived with a host family while she trained and had to be home schooled because of her grueling training hours. She sacrificed her family, friends, and just being a teenager to pursue her dreams.

Are You Ready To be An Olympian?

You do not have to be an athlete to think and train like an Olympian. How many of you would be willing and ready to sacrifice everything that is comfortable to pursue your dreams and goals? We should all learn a lesson from this 16 year old champion. You are capable of achieving anything that you commit you ENTIRE being to. Reach higher, dig deeper, run faster…it will all be worth it!

Turn Authenticity Into Success

“I had no idea that being your authentic self could make me as rich as I’ve become. If I had, I’d have done it a lot earlier.”
Oprah Winfrey

I have spoken with many people these past couple of weeks about what does it take to be successful. Most of them were teenagers looking for “the Answer” or “the Secret”. I feel that the secret to success lies in who you really are. I was one of those people who thought that you had to be privileged or “in the know” to truly be successful and that was FALSE.

What Is Your Authentic Self?
I discovered my true self by going all the way back to when I was at an age ABOVE influence…6 years old. Up until that age I believed that I could do and be anything. I believed that I could change the world. I believed that God was my best friend and I was his princess. I believed that I was brilliant and beautiful. They keyword is: BELIEF. After the age of 6, my belief started to deteriorate. I wasn’t as confident in myself. I didn’t hold myself to a high regard. My belief shifted from God and myself to other people. Before I knew it I was a 28 year old, unaccomplished, rambling rose (ramble: to move aimlessly from place to place).

In 2010, I had a instant paradigm shift; that of which is still in process. I knew that the only way that I would become successful in all areas of my life, I had to reinvigorate my BELIEF! I had to revert back to the fearlessness and confidence that I once had as a little girl. In that little girl dwells my true, authentic self.

My challenge to everyone is to think back to a time when you believed that anything was possible, or when you believed that you were the best because YOU said so. I want all those who read this to tap into their authentic self and embrace it. Within your authentic self lies your ability to be successful and whatever it is that you want.

Are You The Leader Who Serves?

Q: Who makes a great leader?

A: An outstanding servant.

I have been listening to and reading many books on leadership and the characteristics of a great leader. I wasn’t too thrilled by many of the criteria or styles of leadership, so I grabbed the bible and I started reading The Book of Mark, Chapter 9, Verse 35:

35 Sitting down, Jesus called the Twelve and said, “Anyone who wants to be first must be the very last, and the servant of all.” (NIV)

As I read this passage I began to think of all of the leaders that a exponential impact on the sake of mankind: Gandhi, Martin Luther King Jr., John F. Kennedy, Nelson Mandela, and of course, Mother Theresa.

Mother Theresa is the quintessential example of a true Servant Leader. She dedicated her life to serve others in any way that she could at a very young age. She formed various missionaries and initiatives to bring peace and provide necessities to those who were destitute and lacking hope. Her submission of her self to God and the will of the people inspired and compelled others to follow her. As a result she became the figurehead of missionaries and her legacy of service lives on and is carried out by those who were touched by her example.

It is now clear to me that before one becomes a dynamic leader, they must first be a humble servant. It is through selfless dedication to serve that stimulates others to do the same.
